Westwood, Kansas -Tom Watson Productions announced today that it has begun shipping the English language version of 'Tom Watson - Lessons of a Lifetime' to South Korea from Tom Watson's website: tomwatson.com and amazon.com in the U.S. The program also includes English subtitles.
Tom Watson will be in South Korea competing in the Posco E & C Songdo Championship in Songdo, Korea September 10 - 12. This event boasts a purse of $3,000,000 with $455,000 going to the tournament winner.
The two-DVD set containing close to three hours of golf instruction and an accompanying booklet of 44 lessons was filmed at The Greenbrier Resort in the United States, where Watson is Golf Professional Emeritus. This instructional program is the ultimate learning experience, covering all facets of the game-from the grip to full shots, to chipping, putting and the secret of his timeless swing, plus specialty shots including those required in strong wind conditions.
Directed by award-winning Terry Jastrow, 'Lessons of a Lifetime' embodies the practical experiences and competitive winning strategies that have earned Watson professional recognition as one of the greatest players of all time. "Tom Watson applies the same sense of determination and purpose in his new DVD instructional set," says Jastrow, "as he has to his competitive golf game. It's fifty years of experience from one of the game's masters."
Watson ranks 6th on the list of total major championship victories with more wins than Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson. Watson is one of only fourteen players to have won at least three of the four golfing major titles.
Encyclopedic in its skill and strategy coverage, 'Lessons of a Lifetime' is a defining instructional medium and will be a must for beginning golfers and weekend warriors as well as experienced golfers wanting to step up their game. Watson shares the knowledge of the golf swing and game that he learned as a student, competitor and peer of golf legends Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino and others. Watson says, "It's very important that golfers-whether they are beginners or have played for 50 years-learn and understand the fundamentals. These are the building blocks every golfer needs to have in order to play up to their potential but, more importantly, to have fun."
From playing in the wind, to hooking and slicing, antidotes to fearless putting, Watson breaks them down in an easy-to-understand manner. Golfers can begin applying these lessons of a lifetime the next time they stand on the first tee with their friends. Watson teaches his lessons of his lifetime as if golfers are there with him.
"I was fortunate to have received excellent instruction early in my life," says Watson, a Kansas City, Missouri, native who shows no signs of slowing down. "When I was 6 years old, my father, Ray Watson, cut down a hickory-shafted 5-iron, then proceeded to teach me the grip, and how to hook and slice the ball-all the basic fundamentals of the game. It's all this knowledge I've accumulated that I'd like to share with golfers in 'Lessons of a Lifetime.' "
Consistency, contact, alignment, firmness of grip, pivot points, release, rhythm and legendary coach, Harvey Penick's "dead-aim" philosophy are all covered in the two comprehensive DVDs. Watson's instruction comes across in an easy-to-understand manner making it seem your standing right beside him on the tee or green.
Watson, a graduate of Stanford University, was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1988 and owns 39 PGA TOUR victories, including five British Opens, two Masters and one U.S. Open. The latter victory was keyed by Watson's 71st-hole birdie chip-in at Pebble Beach, a shot many historians consider to be the shot of the 20th century.
Last year Watson pulled off one of sports history’s most-memorable moments when he made an incredible bid for his sixth Open Championship title, taking Stewart Cink to a four-hole playoff at Turnberry. Four of Watson’s seven top-10 finishes on the 2009 Champions Tour came in major championships.

This year Watson opened his season by teaming with Jack Nicklaus to win the Wendy's Champions Skins Game. The following week, Watson birdied the final two holes for a 7-under 65 and a one-stroke victory over Champions Tour rookie sensation Fred Couples in the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
Watson has long-standing professional relationships with Adams Golf, Golf Digest, The Greenbrier Resort, MasterCard and Polo Ralph Lauren.
The two-DVD set finishes with a moving tribute to Watson's 'caddie for life', Bruce Edwards, who passed away in April 2004 from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. The tribute concludes with a song written and composed by Watson's stepdaughter, Kelly Paige. A portion of the sales of 'Lessons of a Lifetime' will go to help find a cure for this dreaded, life-ending disease.

Well Done, Captain PavinPosted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
Corey Pavin has displayed his mastery of the bleeding obvious by choosing Tiger Woods for the Ryder Cup team.
In case you need them, here are the reasons why he did the right thing:
He's still the best player in the world. Tiger still executes shots that no one else can (Phil can concieve them, but there's a big "want to"/"can do" gap there). He's now got his divorce behind him and is settled on the two most important things to him: when he can practice and when he can see his kids. He will be rebuilding his mental fortress along with his swing. You want that guy on your team.
He wants to be there. After the first time, Tiger has probably played Ryder Cup golf as much out of obligation as anything else. Now, he wants to be there, to be a part of the team. Having Tiger care about Ryder Cup as much as he cares about majors should be very scary for Monty.
They owe him. Tiger has made more money for more people than anyone since Sam Rothstein in the movie "Casino". Even if he has been a little off, golf owes this guy a chance to participate in and contribute to one of the many events that he helped to make important. Yes, he did.
This ain't the last Ryder Cup, it's the latest. If golf had said no to Tiger now, when (not if) he gets back to form as a player and an attraction you could count on him telling the establishment to take a long walk in a deep water hazard for the forseeable future. You don't want the best guy around boycotting your only creditable team event.
Good job, Corey. Can't wait to see the pairings. Let the games begin!

CSI Wisconsin: Analyzing The Johnson MeltdownPosted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
It’s hard to know where to start with Dustin Johnson and his travails at the US Open. The drama is so apparent, the disappointment so affecting for everyone watching that it is pointless to try to intensify it through reporting. As with many disasters, the onlookers stand there with mouths agape for a moment and then get on to the business of assigning blame. One method of doing that is to compare it to the national debate over the role of government.
Stay with me here.
People are constantly debating whether government should level the playing field or do as little as possible and let the personal responsibility of the individual control individual outcomes. The individuals in this case are Dustin Johnson and his caddy. The PGA had briefed the players and caddies before the tournament about the rules governing the numerous hazards on Whistling Straits, where the only bunkers that Pete Dye left off of the course are Archie and Edith. The reminder notice was posted in the players’ locker room all week. Even the TV guys were told that everything with sand in it was to be played as a bunker. And yet Team Johnson somehow blanked all of that out on the 72nd hole of a major. An inexcusable lack of care and attention. It’s Johnson’s fault.
Maybe.
A PGA rules official was walking with Johnson, presumably to advise on the rules. Johnson hit the ball right of Rush Limbaugh into the crowd, many of whom were standing in the “bunker” where the ball came to rest. The area was trampled down, beat up and otherwise undistinguishable as a bunker. It would have been nice if the PGA guy would have said something to the guy like “What appears to be a sandy path here is a bunker. Heads up, bro.” I mean, people were standing in the bunker with him while he was hitting the shot! David Feherty said that it never occurred to him that it was a bunker. Shouldn’t the PGA take some responsibility for allowing this thing to happen? It’s the government’s fault.
Hmm.
As the saying goes, you can have your own opinion but you can’t have your own facts. One fact Is that the rule is the rule and as harsh as it is, it was enforced evenly and fairly. The other fact is that if Dustin Johnson hits an iron into the fairway, we aren’t having this conversation. To open a whole new can of analogy, while it's tempting to look at this like a murder, it really was a suicide.
I guess we are still looking for the heir apparent to Tiger Woods, but after kicking away two majors in one year in spectacular fashion, Dustin Johnson is the clear heir to the Norman/Mickelson legacy.

Hunter Mahan: Sundog MillionairePosted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
Wearing his Sundog Eyewear Signature Series H Mela-Lens sunglasses, Mahan fired a final round 64 to finish two strokes ahead of the best players in the world.
Mahans captured his third PGA Tour title, and second of 2010, relying on his signature Sundog Eyewear Mela-Lens with the distinctive Matte Polar White frames.
We are all delighted with Hunters tremendous victory and very proud that he relies on his Signature Series H Mela-Lens sunglasses while performing at the games highest level, said Gary Makar, Marketing Manager, Sundog Eyewear. This WGC win assures Hunters place on the 2010 U.S. Ryder Cup team and his stature as one of golfs finest players.
Mahan has relied on Sundog Eyewear Signature Series H sunglasses that he helps design during his three PGA Tour wins, the 2009 Ryder Cup, the 2007 and 2009 Presidents Cup, and his Kiwi Challenge triumph.
His new Signature Series H Mela-Lens sunglasses feature Sundog Eyewears breakthrough Mela-Lens technology. Mela is short for Melanin, a naturally produced pigment that acts as a sunscreen protecting the skin from ultraviolet light. In partnership with BNL Eurolens, a member of the Essilor Group, Sundog Eyewear has created the Sundog Mela-Lens lines utilizing synthetic melanin to produce state-of-the-art melanin lens technology. Mela-Lens absorbs light seamlessly over a broad spectral range providing 98 per cent blue light filtration and 100 per cent UVA/B protection. Mela-Lens features BNL Eurolens Eternity Hard Coat for superior abrasion resistance. Mela-Lens is rated more abrasion resistant than competitive lenses. A more abrasion resistant lens wears less and ultimately provides better vision.
I consider my Sundog Signature Series H Mela-Lens glasses a very important part of my equipment, said Hunter Mahan. While many golfers put their sunglasses on their hat when they putt, I count on my Sundog Eyewear to help me under all conditions. The Signature Series H Mela-Lens is available in Matte Polar White, Steel Blue, Black, and Brown frames, and a variety of lens colors.
The Sundog Eyewear Mela-Lens comes in nine styles for 2010 including the Hunter Mahans Signature Series H, the Paula Creamer Collection Captiva and the Allure model Creamer wore winning the 2010 U.S. Womens Open, Weir Golf Signature Series Polarized Grinder, and in a new smoke-colored Mela-Lens for brighter light conditions.

Introducing Eldrick WoodsPosted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
What we saw on Sunday was not Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is not on the Tour right now, and it remains to be seen if he will ever make another appearance. The guy with the slumped shoulders, shuffling gait and douchebag beard was Eldrick Woods. Some fun facts about Eldrick:
- He has never won on Tour, ever.
- He is about to be divorced and he can't think about anything else.
- The only thing he misses more than his kids are par putts of any length.
- He is likely to lead the Tour in SIR (spectators hit in regulation).
- He hates himself.
Tiger Woods had a lifetime supply of confidence built by his parents' instruction and affirmed by personal success. That belief system has been ripped away by a catastrophic personal revelation, public ridicule and devastating consequences. But the most damaging thing for his golf game may have been the counseling that he went through in an attempt to save his marriage and restore his public standing. The kind of counseling that he underwent is designed to shred everything that you are. It pulls down the temple of yourself and leaves you sorting through the rubble for anything of value. Therapy can leave the individual in a state of complete self-loathing, combined with the feeling that the loathing is deserved. It was apparent in his game this weekend; his demeanor has gone from heir apparent to "I don't deserve to play good golf."
The shambles that is Woods' golf game is a reflection of the wreckage that he is carrying around inside. His sword and shield are gone. He is exposed. He is searching. Tennis great Boris Becker went through a similar personal nightmare to Woods', and he had the most salient quote I have heard about being at the top of an individual sport. "You have to be smart enough to understand the intricacies of your sport well enough to be the best at it. And you have to be dumb enough to think that it is the only thing that matters".
I hope that we see Tiger return to the Tour with a desire to be a great player and an assurance that he can be a good man. I believe has the ability to do both, but I think at least for the time being Eldrick would beg to differ.

Louie, Eldrick and Tiger...Posted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
Former nobody Louis Oosterhuizen parlayed some prodigious driving, nerveless putting and crazy good luck with the weather to run away with the 2010 British Open. The guy led for the last 2 -1/2 days and looked like Old Tom Morris with modern clubs. The Americans were unable to put together anything like a substantial run, most notably Tiger and Phil The most compelling U.S. performance was turned in by a guy wearing the flag on Sunday, John Daly.
While Oosty played like a guy who can win multiple majors, not many people were around to see it. The combination of odd hours and an unknown running away from the field led to low ratings for the event. This is more bad news for the game. All sports need an empire to root for or against. The Yankees, the Lakers/Celtics, the Patriots; these are the hubs the their sports revolve around. if you're lucky, you have two of them and you get to serve up rivalry every so often.
Golf needs Tiger to be Tiger, and what we have currently is Eldrick. He will certainly be very good again, but dominance is in question. The speed bump for him now is putting, and putting is in many ways an extension of personal confidence. Tiger is still regaining his personal confidence and when he gets it back, the putts will drop and we'll say goodbye to Eldrick and welcome back to Tiger.

On a day when The New York Times reported Tiger Woods has been interviewed by federal authorities investigating Anthony Galea, the Canadian doctor accused of providing professional athletes with performance-enhancing drugs, the London Sun reported Woods will pay at least $750 million in his divorce settlement with Elin Nordegren.
The Sun reported Wednesday that Woods and Nordegren will sign divorce papers next week during a court hearing in Orlando, Fla.
The deal gives Nordegren between $750 and $833 million, the newspaper said, and full physical custody of the couple's children, 3-year-old daughter, Sam, and 1-year-old son, Charlie. The couple will share legal custody.
Also, the Sun reported that Woods will be able to visit the children for up to half of each week, but he can't bring any woman around the kids unless he's married or engaged to her.
Meanwhile, Woods' agent confirmed with the Times about his meeting with federal authorities.
"Tiger willingly spoke to the authorities and cooperated fully," agent Mark Steinberg of International Management Group said in an e-mail message after The New York Times reported the meeting on its website. "It was confirmed that because he did nothing illegal, he is not the subject of any criminal investigation."
The interview with Woods was part of a second round of meetings authorities are conducting with athletes who have been treated by Galea.
The authorities are seeking to use the statements of the athletes to build leverage against Galea, who has denied providing players with performance-enhancing drugs. Galea is also facing charges because he does not have a license to practice medicine in Florida, although he is licensed to do so in Canada.
What Woods said was not known, but his statements could become public if they are used in documents related to the case or if he is asked to testify at a trial.
Woods and Galea have acknowledged that Galea treated Woods, but both have said the treatment consisted only of plasma replacement therapy on his left knee and no performance-enhancing drugs were involved.
The treatment involves drawing blood from a patient, spinning it in a centrifuge to increase the platelet count and injecting a small amount into the injured area. Galea said he used a borrowed centrifuge from a doctor in Orlando to treat Woods.
Plasma replacement therapy is legal and permitted by professional sports leagues in North America, although the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits it without prior approval.

The Truth About Dustin...Posted by Michael Williams in sports , pga , golf |
This is a fascinating sudy of the swings of the golfers in contention at this years US Open. Note the hilarious anaolgy of Dustin's Sunday to a bad crash and the still frame of tiger springing the shaft of his driver during a full swing...awesome.
